This experiment used the Chinese celery " ShangNongYuQin" and American celery "UATH'as material, we investigated the industrialized seedling production techniques and plug seedling water physiology of celery. The results of this study indicated :A laboratory test was conducted to syudy germination response of "ShangNongYuQin" and "UATH" seeds to GA3 pretreatment and temperature of germination. At an incubation day/night temperature fluctuations of 25/15 ℃, optimal germination of "ShangNongYuQin" seed occurred, GA3 levels at 600mg/kg,900mg/kg under 15℃ or 25 ℃ improved germination, GA3 levels at 300mg/kg,900mg/kg, 1200mg/kg at 20 ℃ reduced germination. Under 20 ℃ constant temperature and 25/15 ℃ day/night temperature fluctuations, GA3 levels at 600mg/kg,900mg/kg improved germination of "UATH" seeds. Germinition levels at 30℃ were drastically lower than other temperature.Using three kinds of plug tray(288,200,128-cell plugs) to grow celery seedling over a 16-day period. The results showed no significant difference among treatments when the "ShangNongYuQin" celery seedling age is 40-day and when the "UATH" celery seedling age is 33-day, 288-cell plugs restrained seedling growth when the "UATH" seedling age was at 40-day. Container size did not affect seedling Chlorophyll concentration and root vigor until the 40th day. Therefore, 288-cell plugs are recommended for "ShangNongYuQin" celery seedling production, 200-cell plugs are recommended for 40-day old "UATH" seedlings and 288-cell plugs are recommended for 33-day old seedlings.Restricting water supply in media caused large differences in growth rates, which were related to large differences in number of leaves, length and diameter of stalks , biomass of celery plug seedling and attribution percentage of dry mass between root and crown.. Plants adapt to water deficits by many different mechanisms including changes in morphology, altered patterns of development as well as a range of physiological and biochemical processes. A number of these adaptive responses are...
