Our country is serious shortage of water resources, and the distribution is not balance. Agricultural water use accountes for 75 percent of the total water, therefore, the promotion of agricultural irrigation with automatic control not only can ease the acute shortage of water conflicts, but can also increase crop yield, reduce the cost of agricultural products. Given the special nature of agricultural irrigation and China's national conditions, the wireless remote control technology used in the irrigation systems has a very vast prospect.The technology of wireless sensor network in the application of micro-irrigation monitering systems have been researched in this article; and a monitored and controlled by the embedded computer terminals and the central control irrigation network monitoring system is designed. The system introduces the latest research results in the field of computer systems, electronics, communications networks etc., using the wireless communications technology, through the control of GPRS wireless communications modules and ZigBee RF module to implementing the soil temperature and humidity data transmission and interactive, finally to implementing the automatic irrigation.The following main elements are researched in the paper:Firstly, by comparing the domestic and international Micro-irrigation monitering system, the micro-irrigation monitering system model is established referring to China's national conditions; then the overall design of the micro-irrigation monitering system and the system overall framework programme are given. Secondly, the hardware of nodes of the micro-irrigation systems under the control of the plane is detailedly designed; and the hardware module circuit is completed. Thirdly, on the basis of ZigBee protocol stack, the function and structure of software of the crew are implemented through programming; the software of the micro-irrigation monitering system is designed; the crew and PC data transfer is implemented. Finally, the systems are debugged in the laboratory environment; the data communications experiments are done. The experimental results show that the ZigBee wireless sensor network can used for the agricultural irrigation monitoring system.
