Space plays an important role in language expression and language translation. Inrecent years, people have done research on the influence of space on language expressionand translation from different perspectives. But the analysis of the relationship betweenspace of context and expression or space of context and translation has been done little. The relationship between space of context and expression and translation is studied in thispaper on the basis of Professor Peng Liyuan's theory of space-time of context. This thesis first introduces the present research of the relationship between space andexpression, space and translation, and points out that the research on the influence of spaceon expression and translation is not done from the perspective of context space and thatcontext space has not yet been proved to have a close relationship with expression andtranslation. Further analysis of what elements of context space can affect expression andtranslation has not been done either. Then the previous research of context at home andabroad is reviewed, and the background and significance of spatial context theoryanalyzed. Then the classification of space has been focused next. Space of context isdivided into natural space, social space and psychological space. Natural space is aboutthe relationship between human beings and the nature. According to geography, naturalspace includes terrain, climate, earth, hydrology and vegetation. Social space refers to therelationship among human beings. Based on the distance between people and the state ofsocial development, social space contains religions, social customs and historical events.Psychological space is people's experience and cognition of natural and social space. Therelationship between natural space, social space and expression is the core in this thesis. The author concludes that different space leads to different expressions, and that similarspace leads to similar expressions after analyzing some typical cultural terms with threedimensional thinking mode. Differences and similarities of space restrict the methods oftranslation. The author holds that similarities and differences in space may lead to the easiness and difficulties in translation. Techniques such as completely free translation, transferring all or part of the images and literal translation plus note can be used whenthere are differences in space between the author and the translator, and literal translationcan be used when there are similarities in space. The last part is a conclusion. We havedifferent expressions in different space and similar expressions in similar space.Translation is easy when the space between the author and the translator is similar, and itbecomes difficult when the space is different. In short, it is a new direction to study expression and translation from the spatialperspective of context which can help people better understand and recognize theinfluence of space on expression and translation. The limitation of this thesis is that theauthor has illustrated the influence of natural and social space on expression andtranslation, and neglected the influence of psychological space on expression andtranslation, since the author holds that, although psychological space is important, it isinseparable from natural and social space. Further study should be done on the basis of acareful study on natural and social space.
