With the "The Peeping" incident as the breakthrough point, the paper probes into rhetorical strategies in Brothers written by Yu Hua, which consists of at least two perspectives:the rhetorical design of "The Peeping" incident and its rhetorical function exterted on text. The naming symbols of Li Guangtou directly or indirectly derived from "peeping" incident. This naming system is also involved in the process of text construction. The presence of carnival sex symbols uncovers the rhetoric inappropriateness of Brothers, while abundant rhetoric intentions of the author present themselves at the same time. Recipients attain a better understanding of the textual meaning structure and significant theme during the analysis of rhetoric intentions. The inappropriate "peeping" will transform into decent "appreciation" if the approach of "transition from irrational discourse construction to rational rhetoric" can be well employed during the rhetorical interpretation of text. The close examination of the overall rhetoric design by analysis of textual language is adopted as the writing thought. Moreover, the paper also draws lessons from correlative theory of General Rhetoric and Narratology. It is hoped that certain supplementation can be made to the better study of Brothers.
