To develop the Chinese learners'communicative competence in an all-around way has been a common goal in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, which also reflects the current innovative and developing trend of the Chinese textbooks. As exercises play an indispensible and essential part in textbooks, integrated textbooks for elementary level in particular, and most of the studies on exercise designing focus mainly on the language itself instead of the communicative competence development, this paper studied the quantity, the patterns as well as the content of the chosen exercises in NEW PRACTICAL CHINESE READER 1 from the perspective of developing communicative competence, analyzed the features and regulations based on a comparison with three similar textbooks which are all elementary integrated textbooks, pointed out the problems in their exercise designing, and finally proposed some suggestions to the designers and teachers. |
