Vocabulary teaching plays a very important role in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL). It is also the first step on the whole process of TCFL.In the practice of TCFL, vocabulary teaching is generally based on the vocabulary list of the text book, which includes vocabulary entry, pinyin, part of speech, and the English translation. Generally speaking, the students who have English language background often get the conceptual meaning from English translation. It influences the final effect of vocabulary learning. Therefore, it is a very important part to make a satisfactory translation of vocabulary list. As the development of the career of TCFL, lots of competitive text books are published, however, the translation in the text books is ever criticized as"the most undeveloped part in the field of TCFL". So it is the part that deserves thinking and change with great effort.The function of English translation in vocabulary list is to help students understand the meaning of the word. Therefore, the translation of word is not equal to the common translation. In the complex relationship of word corresponding, the translation should be more explanation of language usage information such as matching rules or cultural information.This paper collects some representative problems of translation in the text books of TCFL, such like incorrect translation of conceptual meaning, incomplete translation, burdensome translation, ignoring the matching rules of words and so on. In order to help students build the correct connection of meaning s of vocabularies in two languages, we should know well enough the vocabulary corresponding relationship. Generally speaking, there are three relationships between the vocabularies in two language system, including totally corresponding, partly corresponding and lack of corresponding. The paper discusses the different tactics of English translation and explanation of vocabulary list on text books based on the three corresponding relationships of Chinese and English language.
