In this paper, the author, from cross-culture point of view, explored how to translate tourist materials from one culture to another culture without meeting conflicts. When translator translating tourist materials, they are faced with another culture and different style of the text. Two different cultures and styles make communication a tough job. When a good tourist material has been translated into the target language, the people of target language may not regard it as a successful translation.Western Translation Theory can provide some reference to the translator. In accordance with Skopostheorie:translation is the acts with purpose. Translation strategies are made by the purpose. The standard of a successful translation consists in whether the purpose of the text is achieved or not. When translating tourist materials, the author must bear two purposes in his mind. The first is to introduce Chinese culture to the world in order to strengthen cultural exchanges between the two. The second is to attract more foreign tourists to visit China so that commercial purposes can be achieved. Translation of Chinese tourist materials contain a great deal of cultural information, such as:history, myths and legends, poetry, customs and so on. These are the things that foreign tourists show great interested in. The translator should know what foreign tourists want to know. When translating, the author should keep Chinese culture-oriented principle.Newark holds different types of text should be dealt with different methods--semantic translation or communicative translation. According to different content and style of the text, he divides text into 3 categories:expressive text, informative text and vocative text. English translation of tourist materials is the combination of informative text and vocative text. So we can adopt the method of communicative translation. The translated materials should be fluent concise and follow habits of target language. Choice of vocabulary, the organization of the sentence and materials should be as close as the original. the translator do not need to rigidly adhere to the original expression, increasing sentences or words to help readers understand the text, making necessary amendments to the original text are allowed. What the readers want to read is smooth natural, understandable text. So the readers should do everything he can to help foreigners understand the text.In translation, the translator can use a variety of translation methods, such as add cultural information to the original text, the deletion of useless language, reorganization and transformation of the original text and so on, to avoid discomfort, misunderstanding and conflicts of cultures, and promote cultural exchange.
