TCM Cross-Cultrure Communication Based On English Translation Of TCM Classics

Rich and colorful Traditional Chinese Medical culture(TCM culture) is included in hundreds and thousands of Traditional Chinese Medical Classics(TCM classics). With the development of the world medicine and the increasing improvement of Chinese culture soft power, TCM cross-culture communication has already become an introductive letter and a specific name card to the world. Therefore, pushing the cross-culture communication of TCM culture is quite a meaningful issue to the world as well as to China. Considering the special relation between TCM classics and TCM culture, it is quite meaningful and valuable to have a study on TCM cross-culture communication based on TCM classics translation, especially in English.The study of TCM cross-culture communication based on the English translation of TCM classics has not only theoretical values but social and cultural values as well.Theoretically, it can further push forward the translation task of TCM classics and classics for special purpose, perfect TCM cross-culture communication theory, and becomes a mirror of the theoretical study of the English translation of other subjects' classics and Chinese cultural classics; socially, the study will of course enhance the development of TCM culture in foreign countries so that more and more people around the world can have a detailed understanding of TCM and TCM culture and make more use of it to serve themselves; culturally, it is a rational means to improve Chinese culture soft power and to better inherit and promote traditional Chinese culture.This study, from the angle of English translation of TCM classics, explores the ways of TCM cross-culture communication, retrospectively analyzes the current development of the relevant study of TCM cross-culture communication based on the English translation of TCM classics, discusses the various relations between TCM classics and TCM culture, extends the advantages and disadvantages of the current English translation of TCM classics from the angle of culture-loaded language and cultural schemata, discovers three main limitations—simplification, incorrectness,deficiency of communication—of TCM cross-culture communication based on the English translation of TCM classics, and finally gives three corresponding translating skills—“three combination”—to TCM classics along with four suggestions—culture self-confidence, culture self-realization, culture self-consciousness and culture adaptation—to TCM cross-culture communication. At the end of the study, some other relevant elements of TCM cross-culture communication based on the English translation of TCM classics that need giving full consideration have been brought out.
