With the rapid and extensive economic and social development in China, higher vocational and technical education has been made a corresponding rapid development. Both theoretical research and educational practice in higher vocational and technical education has been developed quickly. For some reasons, our higher vocational and technical education hasn't established its own characteristics on research or practice, which is especially true in its public English teaching. In particular, the current College English Teaching hasn't oriented by Employment. It didn't meet the needs of English skills and qualities of high-technicians in employment market, which leads to many employers unsatisfied with the English proficiency of our students. And meanwhile, some students think that learning English is dispensable in vocational school and think little of its value to their vocational development. Those all make it difficult to achieve the English teaching goals in higher vocational and technical education. Therefore, it's very necessary and urgently to change the traditional English teaching methods and models, to explore and build employment-oriented English teaching. Thus guarantee the full employment of vocational graduates and make the higher vocational public English teaching out of the predicament.Now, a lot of researchers and practitioners have actively researched and attempted the higher vocational public English teaching methods and patterns. Based on the well-known ESP(English for Specific Purposes) English teaching theories and combined with my own experiences on public English teaching, this thesis is aim to carry out research on employment-oriented reform of vocational English teaching. First, I proposed the necessities of employment-oriented reform of vocational English teaching. And drew a conclusion that it could better achieve the goal of vocational English, and was the important way to promote the students'employment, at the same time met the needs of compound talents in the highly-developed society. Through analyzing the facts in teaching activities, such as teaching objectives, students'interest and proficiency in English learning, selection of teaching materials, teaching methods, teaching staff, the language learning environment and so on, I fond the gap between current status of higher vocational English teaching and employment-oriented English teaching. I stated the requirement of vocational public English teaching under employment-oriented reform. At last, I offered some suggestions on teaching reforming, such as being employment oriented, improving teaching environment for employment, enforcing the connection between the professional courses and the basic courses, fully manifesting the characteristics and affects of public English teaching on employment oriented. To explore effective and new teaching methods of vocational public English on employment oriented.
