With the rapid economic development, China’s international status is rising greatly in the process of globalization, and the international exchange and cooperation is expanding and deepening, Correspondingly, English proficiency is being increasingly required in all industries. How to train the students’professional English pragmatic competence has become a new challenge to higher vocational English teaching.However, the survey and literature review shows some problems of English teaching in higher vocational colleges, including old and conventional teaching idea, unpractical teaching contents with no occupational characteristics, too traditional teaching methods, lack of teachers with professional English teaching abilities, students’passive attitude towards English learning, unreasonable teaching evaluation and so on. As a result, the students’ occupational abilities training is neglected. After the analysis of the causes, such as knowledge-based and major-oriented education environment, this paper proposes the idea of job-oriented "trinity" higher vocational English teaching reform, namely to implement a job-oriented and integrated teaching to teach the students basic English and professional English knowledge and train their professional English pragmatic competence and humanistic quality. It embodies the practical, open and occupational characteristics of English teaching, and also realizes the consistency of curriculum teaching and occupational abilities, hoping to change the current higher vocational English teaching in our country, and reduce the gap between graduates’ English pragmatic competence and the industry demands.The article also discusses the countermeasures to implement the "trinity" higher vocational English teaching reform. It suggests setting up the job-oriented teaching idea according to Competence Based Education, determining the occupational abilities-oriented teaching aims and choosing the professional English-oriented teaching contents, adopting the new methods of project teaching and task-driven teaching oriented by job tasks, improving the English teachers’ professional English knowledge and teaching abilities in different ways, and setting up a higher vocational English teaching evaluation system based on the occupational abilities standard.
