Higher vocational-technical education (hereafter abbreviated asHVTE) has developed for 20 years. It is a higher level vocational-technicaleducation type, which is different from academic higher education andsecondary vocational education. Both theoretical research on andeducational practice in HVTE have been developed quickly. However it thinksprofessional courses is more important than basic courses. It is hard toestablish its own characteristics on research or practice. It doesn'tcultivate high-technicians effectively, which is especially true in itspublic English teaching. Since the appearance of HVTE, its public Englishteaching has been by or following the teaching patterns of academic highereducation or secondary vocational education. It didn't meet the needs ofEnglish skills and qualities of high-technicians in employment market. Onone hand English teaching didn't reach the aim of making the studentsstudy for the purpose of application. On the other hand English teachingtends to be deleted from the HVTE course system.Now, a lot of researchers and practitioners have actively researchedand attempted public English teaching methods and patterns. This thesis'saim is to eradiate the traditional idea, to takes public English teachingmore important in high-technicians cultivating systems, to improve itseffection, to realize the aim of developing students' acknowledges,abilities and qualities, and to guarantee high-technicians being employedsuccessfully. I made a detail analysis on HVTE's characteristic—emloymentoriented. I think the aim of HVTE is to meet the need of personnel market.The high-technicians competes on acknowledge, abilities and qualities aswell as professional acknowledge and skills. HVTE should insist on humanist.The basic courses in HVTE including public English, play an sufficient roleon cultivating students' basic acknowledge and humanities qualities, onwhich its is more important than professional courses.I analyzed the facts in teaching activities, such as students,teachers, textbooks and so on, and fond many problems. Teachingrequirements don't conforms to the actual situation, teaching activitiesdon't connect with employment practice, textbooks and equipments don'tassort. All these problems made the distance between the public Englishteaching and high-technicians cultivating on employment oriented.According to others' perfect theories and my own experiences on publicEnglish teaching, I offered some suggestions on teaching reforming, suchas being employment oriented, improving teaching environment foremployment, enforcing the connection between the professional courses andthe basic courses, fully manifesting the characteristics and affects ofpublic English teaching on employment oriented.
