With the development of society and more communication between countries, English become more and more important. However, the current situation of English teaching in secondary vocational school needs to be improved. Some "unexpected matters" always take place in the English class of vocational schools, which seriously affect the normal teaching process. Therefore, the "unexpected matters" in the English class of secondary vocational school are worth of research and investigation, aiming to achieve better English teaching results and prepare the students with better skills.In introduction to the thesis, the background of the research are presented, and a brief analysis of current teaching situation in the English class in secondary vocational schools is introduced. After worth, some key concepts are set forth.In the investigation and research part, this thesis focuses on three aspects of the investigation of "unexpected matters" in the English classes of secondary vocational schools in Wuxi, which are the type, the causes and the solutions, by means of questionnaires and interviews. "unexpected matters" are divided into two types, one is "unexpected matters in the English classroom", the other one is "unexpected matters out of classroom". After the investigation, causes of "unexpected matters" are analyzed, which focus on three elements—students, teachers and teaching material. Subsequently, the teaching suggestions solving the "unexpected matters" are put forth, in order to help the English teacher in secondary vocational schools, such as "emotional teaching methods", "teaching tacts in English class", "active preparation and effective production approaches" and so on. In order to support the points of view, successful teaching cases are presented at the end.In the conclusion, the findings of "unexpected matters" in the secondary vocational school are presented, as well as the reflective thinking on the difficulties, and limitations of the research.
