As a second language, spoken English teaching has its distinctive particularity, wherethe classroom teaching method should be student-oriented. Teachers and students cancommunicate with each other in the process, so that their enthusiasm and exploitationcompetence in speaking English can be aroused by creating multi-dimensional interactiveenvironment.The research focuses on the application of the interactive teaching method (hereafterreferred to as ITM) in oral English teaching, with Wuxi Higher Vocational School ofTourism and Commerce as the case study. The author investigated the present oral Englishlearning situations of Secondary Vocational School students and the practical application ofITM in oral English teaching classroom. On this basis, a20-week experiment was carriedout, aiming to investigate whether ITM can effectively improve the overall speakingcompetence of Secondary Vocational School students and whether it can affect thestudents’ lexicon grammar, intonation, pronunciation, and interactive communication.Based on the data analysis, the research comes to the following conclusions:1)Students in Secondary Vocational School have deep interest in oral English, and expectteachers to design interactive activities to improve their spoken English.2) More than50%of the teachers from Business English teaching group have already realized the importanceof ITM in oral English teaching. However, being short of systemic speculative knowledgeand directions of practical operations, they perform ineffectively in implementing ITM inoral English and designing related activities.3) ITM does effectively improve students’oral English proficiency. The post-test result analysis shows that the passing percentage ofthe experimental class and the control class is97%and84%respectively. And52%of thestudents from the experimental class got high scores, while only14%in controlled class doso.4) By comparing tests results and analyzing questionnaires during the experiment session, the research shows that ITM helps effectively in improving the following subitemsin lexicon grammar, intonation, pronunciation, and interactive communication of students’oral expression. Furthermore, it promotes good teacher-student relationship as well asreflecting student-oriented teaching conception in interactive activities, fostering students’competency of active cooperation, negotiation, autonomous learning and self-challenge.
