Experiential teaching began to be widely used in the middle and end of last century. It was firstly put forward in the1990s in China. Experiential teaching is a kind of learner-centered teaching model, in which learners attempt to attain knowledge by personal experiencing, conceptualizing, and understanding.This thesis aims to research the application of the Experiential English Teaching model to the students in automobile major. First, the concept of experience and experience teaching are mentioned, theoretical foundation and related research at home and abroad are also discussed as the basis in the paper. The author designs an experiential teaching experiment in order to improve the students’ interest in English learning and ability to use English. Two classes majoring in car maintenance are selected as the subjects. The research aims to solve the following questions:1. Can the Experiential Teaching model increase students’ interest in learning English?2. Can the Experiential Teaching model improve students’ communication ability? Two questionnaires and two tests before and after the experiment and one interview after the experiment were adopted respectively to collect research data. Both of the questionnaires contain such information as students’situation, interest and attitude in English learning as well as their understanding toward the Experiential Teaching model. Through the investigation and analysis, the author draws the following conclusion:The Experiential Teaching model is feasible and effective in the English classes of the secondary vocational school. After a series of test analysis, the author believes that the Experiential Teaching model is very helpful to improve learners’ English overall proficiency, especially proficiency in the enlargement of vocabulary and in communication skills. The interview to twenty learners after the experiment further proves the results. The Experiential Teaching model not only focuses on the learning process, but also motivates students’interest in English learning and improves students’capability.To sum up, the Experiential learning model not only makes students have a clear of understanding of the meaning of learning, stimulates their enthusiasm in English, but also promotes their ability in autonomous learning and self-consciousness in cooperation, which will play a crucial part in the future teaching practice.
