The Study On Providing Peer Counselors For The Freshmen

"The opinions on strengthening and improving the ideological and political education for undergraduates", issued by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and State Council, pointed out clearly that undergraduates are valuable talent resources for the country. In nowadays, certain inadaptation among freshmen and some new characteristics that differ with traditional ones appear, with the popularization of high education and implementation of the credit system in the universities. Counselors play an important role on the political education of undergraduates and the staff construction of counselors encounters many problems and difficulties. It is practical to introduce a new helping-study method including the peer counselors for the ideological and political education of undergraduates.The reason and theoretical basis of providing peer counselors for freshman were analyzed in this paper, by applying the literature and survey study as well as the knowledge of sociology and educational psychology. The practical meaning of providing peer counselors for freshman was discussed. The detailed designs of providing peer counselors for freshmen were also suggested to provide useful references for the innovation of political education in the universities.
