On Regional Development Of Independent College

With civilian-run mechanism and a new school-running model, independent colleges attracted a mass of civil capitals for running. The role of independent colleges is vital to civilian-run higher education for its great contribution to popularization of higher education.With the development of more than a decade, independent colleges of Hubei province, which are regarded as first-class nationwide both in quantity and in quality, have showed their distinctive regional features and strong influences. Based on literature review, this paper starts with status quo of development of independent colleges in our country (esp. in Hubei province), and does a macro investigation in independent colleges in Hubei province in the aspects of settings, orientations, features, dimensions, system constructions and strategic development.Five major problems are revealed by data collected in the questionnaires distributed to some representative independent colleges. Corresponding solutions are:①establish modern property relations and perfect the corporate management structure;②reinforce government supervision;③increase capitals;④adjust specialty settings and improve teaching quality;⑤upgrade management.Three limitations as well as suggestions of possible follow-up studies are concluded in the end.
