Zunyi Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy

Entering the 21st century, tourism has become one of the most rapidly developing industries. As a comprehensive industry, tourism has become one of the pillar industries in the strategy of "Expanding Domestic Demand". Tourism plays a more and more important role in the western provinces with rich touring resources. However, under the guidance of the policy about "Developing the West Regions" and "Expanding Domestic Demand", Zunyi also takes the late bus to develop tourism. Under special historical conditions, Red Tourism arose and rapidly developed as a result of the patriotic movement. Under the guidance of Sustainable Development Strategy, Sustainable Tourism has got well development. Red Tourism and Sustainable Tourism thus become characteristics of tourism development in Zunyi.This paper starts from discussing the tourism in Zunyi, and then based on the Sustainable Development Theory, illustrates the tourism development in Zunyi with the Life Cycle Theory. The paper consists of five parts. The first part is Introduction, in which the author introduces the background, research objectives, research methods, literature review as well as the theories for research of this paper. In the second part, based on the SWOT theory, the author focuses on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in Zunyi. Also, the economic, political and geographical reasons for the existence of tourism in Zunyi are explained based on the previous analysis. In the third part, the author compared the strategies adopted by the western areas to develop the tourism, and then analyzes and summarizes all the strategies mentioned. The fourth part demonstrates the feasibility and urgency to develop tourism in Zunyi. The fifth part analyzes the theoretical basis and proposes some options for the tourism development in Zunyi.From the tourism perspective, based on Sustainable Development Theory, Life Cycle Theory, Region Theory, SWOT Theory, etc. this paper makes a review of the development of tourism in Zunyi. We conclude that it is conducive for Zunyi to getting away from poverty and promoting the growth of economy by developing tourism. Suggestions are put forward to solve the problem at present. According to the summarization of the models for tourism development in Zunyi, the author points out that Zunyi should develop the tourism with its regional advantages and own characteristics to make tourism become its "name card". This paper also proposes the general concept of tourism development in Zunyi, i.e. Zunyi should develop sustainable tourism with priority given to the Red Tourism and characteristic tourism as complementary.
