As a kind of non-renewable resources, mineral resources become more and more important in economical and social development. Yunnan province is rich of mineral resources and is known as'kingdom of nonferrous metal', but it will also become insufficient along the rapid economical developing in the future decades. Thus the mining industry of Yunnan province must fully utilize both domestic and international markets and resources for satisfying the request of economical development. Yunnan province is located in the southwest borderland of China. The mining industry in Yunnan province's neighboring countries is still under developed and so is of great investment potential. In addition, Yunnan province also has great geographical complementarities with the neighboring countries. Thus the neighboring countries are one of the preferred zones for mining investment. In this paper, based on the analysis of mineral resources complementarities between Yunnan province and its neighboring countries, GIS softwares are used to evluating the investment environment of mining industry. Minning industry indicators are chosed and quantified firstly, then the investment index is composed and calculated with all the indicators which are weighted with standardization method, at last the investment index is combined with the distribution of mineral resources, mineral zones and traffic conditions using ArcGis software. As the research results, several preferred areas of better investment environments are proposed, Ha Tinh province, Nghe An province and the Red River Delta of Vietnam where are appropriate for ferrous metals industry, central and northwest area of Thailand where are appropriate for non-ferrous metals industry, Mandalay province and Sagaing province of Myanmar are appropriate for precious metals and gem industry, Vientiane province and Champassak province of Laos are appropriate for rock salt and gem industry, Takeo province and Otto Meanchey province of Cambodia are appropriate for jade industry.
