Competency Assessment Method (CAM) is an important technique of Human Resource Management and Development in theory and practice, especially in personnel selection and training。Based on literatures of related fields, This study tries to establish the competency model of book editors by way of questionnaires survey, Focus Group (composed of experts) Interview and Behavioral Event Interview (BEI).The main results found in this study are as follows:1,The frequencies of competencies distinguish between the group of excellent book editors and the group of ordinary book editors, but interview time and length of interview documents do not distinguish between the two groups.2,Study of criterion sample shows that manager's competencies of book editors are as follows: education sensitivity, information seeking, customers'needs, innovation ability, re-creation ability, market awareness, achievement orientation, problem sensitivity, edit ability, mastermind ability.3,360 degree assessment questionnaire suggest that : The results of study of able to distinguish between the group of excellent book editors and the group of ordinary book editors, this will be of great practical value in HR development activities, such as employment and selection, training and development, performance management and career design of book editors.
