The economic globalization has been a general trend of the world politics and economic development. However, more and more countries come to realize the dual nature of the globalization: it brought both opportunities and challenges to all the countries, especially to the developing countries. To confront the challenges, it is a necessary choice to take part in the regional cooperation with the neighboring countries. The sub-regional economic cooperation is one pattern of the regional integration, and it has special importance to the East Asian area. So the Greater Mekong Sub-regional Cooperation goes with the tide of the regional cooperation.During the past 10 years, the GMS have achieved great progress. China's participation in the Mekong sub-regional cooperation is conducive to narrow the valley between the five countries and promote the mutual understanding and friendship with the five countries, and to create a favorable surrounding environment for the development of our country. However, the cooperation at the present is not as fruitful as imagined, it is facing several difficulties and problems. To study it, the theory of International Relations and the model of economic effects of the International Integration will be used to help with the analysis of the Greater Mekong Sub-regional cooperation. After the analysis, the article will provide some recommendations and solutions for the GMS cooperation. The extension of economic ties with neighboring countries, such as with the other members of ASEAN, the countries of South Asia and the Southwest China, can provide greater development opportunities for the GMS. |
