This paper has practically presented the application and research of value engineering on the project of Luojiaohe Hydropower Station. The goal of value engineering had been made by analyzing the demand of the owner of Luojiaohe Hydropower Station and the research object was defined by using the ABC analysis method. The research method of value engineering was adapted to analyzing It realized the functional goal of the project with low cost and high efficiency within relatively short construction period. The whole engineering project was completed one year ahead of schedule and the power was generated half year before the schedule, it has showed that the application of value engineering has achieved great economical and social results on the project of Luojiaohe Hydropower Station at Defang County, both the local county government and station owner are very satisfied with the benefits from earlier completion of the project.Combined with the theory and practices, this paper finally brings forth the problems to be solved for value engineering in the construction of a project and the future research direction of this subject.
