Urban area, as an integrated entity, includes many fields, such as politics, economy, society, culture, architecture, ecology, and so on. Therefore, the study of urban development history is a subject related to social science and natural science disciplines, such as, history, politics, economics, sociology, geography, statistics, etc. The researchers in this field should have considerable background knowledge and a wide vision.That's why the urban development history is an arduous and attractive subject.It was not only a three-decade golden time for the development of urban areas in the northeast of Asia during the period which spanned from the late years of the Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, but a crucial period for the northeast to transform from a traditional society to the modern one.Based on plenty of rich historical documents, and by the means of history, sociology, geography and statistic etc., the thesis elaborates and researches on the evolutionary process, development drives and the unique features of urban areas in the northeast Asia from the late years of the Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of ChinaAfter China drew up strategies to revitalize the traditional industrial bases in Northeast China, the region has presented a rare development opportunity for local economic revival and harmonious social progress.According to the research of the urban development in the northeast of Asia in the specific historical period, the author tries to take the history as a mirror for the urban study and development in the region.The full text is divided into four chapters.Chapter One introduces the immigration from the area to the west of the Shanhai Pass and to the east of the Jiayu Pass to the northeast of China, which was the foundation of the population increase in the urban areas of the region. The sharp population increase led to the increasing number of cities and the expansioes the flourishing of urban development in the region, as the population increased. With the development of urban economy, the emergence of modern industry, mn of the urban areas.Chapter two elaboratodern finance and modern municipal administration and the booming modern businesses represented the flourishing urban development. The successive establishment of publish, education, library and museum, which represents a city's civilization, can be seen as the transformation from the traditional cities to the modern ones in the region.Chapter Three is a full-scale analysis of the four historic events happened in the northeast Asia and the relations with the urban development, from the late years of the Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, which includes reclamation and cultivation of wasteland by immigrants, the establishment of trading port and trade relations, the construction of the railroad and the capital inflow from the western countries.Chapter Four introduces the unique characteristics of the northeast Asian urban areas, which features as "retarded start, rapid development", by the four stimulus—the reclamation and cultivation of wasteland by immigrants, the establishment of trading port and trade relations, the construction of the railroad and the capital inflow from the western countries. The northeast urban areas strongly feature colony, semi-colony and immigrant characters within the barricade of colonialism.
