Research On The Shipping Of Liaohe River During The Late Qing Dynasty(1840~1911)

Shipping, or water transportation, is and very important part of transportation which is closely related to the social economic development and the life of people. Liao River, which has a long shipping history, is an important navigable river of south area of the northeast. The Liao River shipping developed most rapidly during the late Qing dynasty. After 1861, the Yingkou port opened, as the invasion of the foreign capitalism, Liao River happened a unprecedented change. This thesis, based on the documents of the research of northeast area, analyses the development of Liao River shipping condition during the late Qing dynasty, the formation of shipping network, and the relationship between the shipping and the coastal urban belt changes, channel comprehensive treatment problems. From researching these problems, the study of the characteristics of Liao River will be clear.This thesis consists of three parts, specific content as follows:The first part mainly discusses the Yikou port and the prosperity of Liao River shipping. It includes the development of Liao River before shipping from Yingkou, the formation of Liao River shipping network. It also depicts from the formation and development of the coastal urban belt to discuss the relationship between Yingkou port opening and the development of Liao River, and introduce the development of Liao River shipping after the Yingkou port opening.The second part analyzes the reason of the decline of Liao River shipping and discusses the efforts which Qing government made to revive the shipping. As a result of Liao River channel blockage, the open service of Dalian port, the rise of railway transportation way and so on, Liao River channel began to decline from 20 th century. In the face of these problems of Liao River problems, the government and folk have been committed to the river regulation, trying to revive the Liao River shipping. This article depicts the procedure of governance from the Liao River channel regulation scheme, government financing measures and government engineering.The third part, on the basis of discussing historical facts accurately, it has concluded the characteristics of Liao River shipping, and make evaluation of the Liao River shipping in the late Qing dynasty. After the Yingkou port opened,Liaohe shipping development has entered a new historical stage, the active involvement of foreign forces Liaohe shipping industry, to the late Qing Liaohe shipping development had a major impact. During this period, the prosperity of the Liaohe shipping merchandise to promote the economic development of the northeast region, accelerating the process of economic integration in Northeast, on the development of modern northeastern region has made important contributions.
