Study Of The Level Of Urbanization Of The Upper Reaches Of The Yangtze River Region

Urbanization is a global phenomenon of socio-economic transition,and plays an important aspect of modernization of our country. For the definition of urbanization, scholars in different disciplines have different definitions. Economists, sociologists, demographers, ecologists, etc. carried out the study in-depth on the urbanization, and gain a wealth of academic achievements. However, the definition of urbanization hasn't form a unified opinion yet, this is not conducive to the practice of urbanization. 30 years of reform and opening up, urbanization of China level has greatly improved, but there is a lot of problems, too. Such as environmental pollution, vulnerable groups, rural land issues and so on, are directly or indirectly associated with urbanization. To speed up urbanization process of China in modernization is an important development strategy, On the background of development of the western region, promote the process of urbanization of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River becomes very important. However, the lack of scientific and effective evaluation index system of urbanization for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River to guide the urbanization of the region. Therefore, in order to safeguard the development of urbanization healthily, to make the urbanization and the national economy, sociality interaction healthily, to balance of urbanization and ecological environment, there need a reasonable and unique evaluation index system to evaluate various aspects of cities'.In this paper, author study level of urbanization of fifty four cities (counties) selected from upper reaches of the Yangtze River (Chongqing, Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou) with appropriate evaluation index system. The main contents of this paper include:(1) Review the definition of urbanization and the urbanization measure methods;(2) Based on the understanding of urbanization, considering all factors build an evaluation index System ,which is simple, suitable for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River ;(3) Evaluate the level of development of cities, the state of development of fifty four cities of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, feedback and control the problems in the process urbanization in time;(4) Propose Suggestions which promote urbanization of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at this stage.The main innovation in this article: (1) Build an evaluation index system which with the characteristics of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Select indicators'data is easier to access and has the local characteristics.(2) Measure level of development and urbanization of cities in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Make Cluster Analysis for them based on a combination of factors and single-factor, and analysis the result.In this paper, combine the practice of urbanization of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River closely, based on the actual situation of cities. When design evaluation index system, fully demonstrates the feasibility, comprehensive, reasonable, in order to provide Simple and effective evaluation system for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
