Due to the increasing attention of the world countries towards service industry, the global industry development has shown a completely new pattern, that is, the focus is gradually shifting from manufacturing to service sector. The rise in service sector in importance in national economies has led to fast development in service trade. Since the 80's, the annual average growth rate of the global service trade surpassed that of goods trade. The sector emerged as a new important factor of economic growth in many countries. Because of the late development of China's service trade, with factors such as, infrastructure development among others, still lagging behind. Therefore, a need for finding some ways of strengthening the international competitiveness of this sector in order to make it contribute significantly to the country's economic development has attracted the interest of many researchers in academic circles. This paper compared the present developmental state of service trade of our country with that of USA and Canada. It started with the comparison of the three countries on service trade related policies and laws, then used both the trade total competitive, and revealed comparative advantage indices in order to examine the differences among the countries. The lessons drawn from the experiences of these western developed countries were used as basis for suggesting policies aimed at solving main problems of this sector and improving its international competitiveness.
