Nowadays, with the serious global environmental problem, energy-saving has become one of the most important issues in the world. In the field of lighting, LED semiconductor lighting is the third-generation light source. With a series of unique advantages ,such as energy-saving, safe, reliable, it is considered the most promising industry in high-tech areas in new century. In order to seize a huge market space, many countries have launched national and regional plans to develop their semiconductor lighting industry.China has developed it's LED industry for many years, and has basically formed a relatively complete industrial chain. Through the whole country, there are four major industrial gathering areas, in which about 85% of the LED companies are located. These areas include : Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Fujian Triangle, as well as the northern area. Yangzhou is one of seven national semiconductor lighting industrial bases in China. With the government's strong support and through the efforts of enterprises, the LED industry in Yangzhou has been successfully developed. However, for the competition both from domestic and foreign markets, Yangzhou LED industry'further development and expansion is facing many difficulties. Therefore, it is necessary to study Yangzhou LED industrial, find the key factors that affected the competitiveness of industry, and propose an improved scheme. It would also raise the Yangzhou economy as a whole. This paper uses Porter's "diamond model" as the oretical analysis framework to study the LED industry in Yangzhou. Furthermore, the paper deeply analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of various aspects of the LED industry in Yangzhou, and finally puts up some specific recommendations to promote its development. The conclusion from the study is: the competitiveness of LED industry in Yangzhou ranked fifth in six selected cities in article, but across the whole country it is still leading. Advantages are: in support of the government, enterprise have favorable economy environment; with a complete product system, the industry in Yangzhou has strong market competitiveness; the industry grew rapidly, the cluster has a larger room for growth. The key factors that restrict the Yangzhou LED industrial clusters are as follows: the Industry started relatively late, the overall size is to be expanded; core technology is scarce, the innovation system of the industry is imperfect; management ability of the cluster is poor, competition among enterprises is excessive and cooperation is deficient.According to the conclusions, the paper puts forward some specific proposals: carry out the LED industry policies, optimize the industrial development environment; accelerate industrial agglomeration, improve the LED industry system; to strengthen communication and cooperation between enterprises, create new competitive landscape; to increase R&D investment, enhancing independent innovation capability; strengthen the introduction and cultivation of talents to create LED industry intelligence platform; innovative financing, broadening financing channels for SMEs; Actively involved in developing industry standards, and strive to master the industry the right to speak; create trade show system, and increase industry influence; build application platform to accelerate the pace of demonstration and extension; sound trade associations, establish communication platform between government and enterprise.
