This article analyses the periodic characters of the inland steamship industries in Ningbo according making a research on the developmental venation of it, and then discusses the concerned geographical and social factors of it.It points out that the prosperity phenomena of the inland steamship industries in Ningbo during 1895-1910, and the reasons of choosing the steamship routes.The inland steamship industries in Ningbo stagnated during the first decade of the Republic of China due to the restrictions of geographical conditions and the impacts of modern land vehicles.The traffic capacity of the suburb man-made rivers was exerted since the small steamship thrived in the late 1920s. Along with the Prosperity of the steamship industries was the furious competition. The initiation of the city constructions and the expansion of the stores strived for the developmental space with the steamship industries.The inland steamship industries in Ningbo were depressed as a result of the Anti-Japanese War and the Civil War. The combined transport which was developed between the inland steamship and the Zhegan railway gave the steamship industries a little breathing space in the cracks, but the high frequency highjack fished in the troubled inland steamship industries.
