Location selection is one of the key problems in the whole logistics system. It's the strategic item in logistics system researches. To a single enterprise, it affects the whole construction levels of the logistics system. To the supply chain system, the location selection decision of the core enterprise will affect all supply vendors' logistics systems. The location selection of logistics distribution center affects its cost and efficiency deeply and affects its warehousing plan and development also. It's a strategic problem and lies in all levels of logistics system. There are lots of buildings, infrastructures and machines in logistics distribution center. Once the location is set, it is hard to move. Big money will be wasted if the location is improper. So we should take this problem seriously. The research to location selection is of practicality.This paper is firstly dedicated on introducing the concept of distribution and distribution center, all the process involved, its functions, and the major facilities. Then a wholesome analysis is conducted on distribution center location, the principles and regulations etc. A site distribution model based on fuzzy TOPSIS is applied to identify all the alternative locations. After that, a corresponding simulation model is built and then used to determine the best location through the powerful optimization functions of Witness.The paper is divided into five parts:the first part mainly introduces the research background, its purpose and meaningfulness, as well as the current research progresses. Then the second part works the definition of the distribution center, its functions, different types, and the basic theories of distribution location, including its significance on the design of distribution system, all affecting factors, and all principles that we should follow when making the decision,finally it introduces the basic theories of system simulation and the Witness simulation technology. The third part studies the application of fuzzy TOPSIS on location problems. An evaluation criteria system is firstly established, and then the experts will assign different weights on indicators through the use of linguistic variables and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Then all alternative locations are determined through the TOPSIS method. The fourth part is the heart of this paper, it research on the application of Witness. simulation on distribution location problems. First, a logistics cost model is established, and then a simulation model of distribution centers built with all model elements carefully designed. Lastly, the best location point is found by the optimization of simulation model. The last part draws a conclusion and shows the perspectives of future study.
