The electric power industry being the bottleneck industry of the national economy, its developing status has a direct relation with the whole national economy. The efficiency of the electric power industry has direct impact on the allocation of national resources. Therefore, researching the efficiency of the electric power industry is of great significance to our country, which is lack of resources and funds, and it has enormous economic and practical significance for accelerating the reform of the power industry. It plays an important role in assessing and guiding the reform.The statistical data of electric power industry was used to calculate its efficiency by DEA, with the aid of the DEAP software. On the one hand, the paper has calculated the efficiency of electric power industry from 2002 to 2004 by panel data. On the other hand, the paper has calculated and evaluated the efficiency of electric power industry of 30 districts by cross-section data, and pointed out the way to improve the efficiency.From the research, the conclusions of this paper are as follows:First, the efficiency of China's electric power industry has been improved; this is credited to the technical progress.Second, there is a big difference between the efficiency of different districts; most of districts are in increasing returns scale, so the efficiency can be improved by expanding the scale.
