In recent years, Shanghai has achieved remarkable progress in building international economic, financial, trade and shipping center, playing an important role in the service of national economic and social development. Shanghai has entered a substantial start-up phase to build international trade center and shipping center. As the international shipping center was formally approved by the State Council, Shanghai is preparing for an ambitious sketch of the International Trade Centre. In the next ten years, Shanghai will be in a key period of developing it self as an international trade center sustained by its status of an international shipping center. This dissertation is formed for this consideration, to forecast its development and give some useful policy suggestions.International experience shows that a variety of factors in trade and shipping interact in the process of shaping international trade and shipping center in London, New York, Singapore and other cities. And these cities are both international trade centre and shipping center, since they have many similar characteristics. Shanghai needs to rely on the common development of trade and shipping to achieve the two centers, while Shanghai has corresponding conditions in the process of two centers.Whether from domestic or foreign areas, it is an excellent background of the times for Shanghai to build international trade and shipping center. On the basis of support of good industrial economy, Shanghai possesses all the advantages in terms of building international trade center and shipping center, which include natural conditions and location, port transportation, economic conditions of the hinterland and urban conditions. It should be said, no "center" is isolated in Shanghai speeding up the process of building the "four centers". When researching on building international trade and shipping center, many experts have given comments on the relationship between the two centers. They believe that the effective interaction of the two "center" will further enhance the comprehensive ability of Shanghai. On one hand, the significant growth in trade will give rise to a large number demand of shipping in Shanghai, promote the gathering of maritime elements, speed up the formation of international shipping center. On the other hand, modern international trade center generally have six functions including port cargo distribution, commodity trading and pricing, trading operations and control, international exhibition and multinational purchasing, distribution center of domestic market, international shopping paradise. These features are closely related to the construction of software and hardware facilities involved in Shanghai international shipping center. Moreover, the relationship between Shanghai's two "center" is not only limited in interdependence and promoting in a general sense. All aspects are inextricably linked in Shanghai building the international trade and shipping center in view of the initial goals and development model, the subsequent planning and construction, resource utilization and role play. This article focuses on building international trade center and shipping center in Shanghai. We use the combination method of theoretical research and empirical analysis to analyze relations between international trade and shipping. Through the model of the degree of interdependence between trade and shipping, we test the exact relationship between the two centers in Shanghai, we offer some useful views to speed up the pace of building four centers as well as to further improve the entire national economy. The first chapter discusses the two centers'existing with each other and mutually dependent relationship in the view of economic theory. By analyzing the background, basic conditions and the current situation of Shanghai building two centers, the second chapter explores the relationship between two centers in Shanghai. For demonstration, the third chapter sets up a model using annual data of Shanghai container throughput and international trade amount, to analyze the relationship mentioned above. In this part, the model was utilized to dynamically forecast the container throughput and international trade amount of Shanghai in 5 years going forward. Finally, suggestions were made emphasizing aspects including accelerating deep-water port construction, strengthening the construction of supporting facilities, speeding up the construction of port logistics bases and logistics centers and improving the soft environment for shipping services.
