Pharyngitis is a chronic disease lack of effective drugs that responded well to treatment. On the basis of the investigation and researching literature, we simplified the traditional Chinese medicines Fu fang that was widely used for clinical practice. Being conducted multiple tests of pharmacodynamics, we definited the simplex prescription which consists of three traditional Chinese medicines-myrobalan, fructus mume, glycyrrhiza. The activities of simplex prescription are commensurate with or a little higher than the original. On the basis of bioassay tests, we found the active site. 22 compounds were isolated from the active site of simplex prescription. And 16 compounds were elucidated on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectroscopic data, as: glabrolide (1), formononetin (2), shikimic acid (3), p-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid (4), liquiritigenin (5), isoliquiritigenin (6), 18a-hydroxyglycyrrhetic acid (7), liquiritin (8), salicylic acid (9), kumatakenin (10), 24-hydroxymethylglabrolide (11), benzoic acid (12), 22p-acethylglabric acid (13), medicarpin-3-O-@-D-glucopyranoside (14), ethyl p-hydroxyphenyl propionate (15) and P-sitosterol (16). compound 4, 14 and 15 are isolated from the three traditional Chinese medicine for the first time.
