OBJECTIVE: By philology studying the signs and principles of treatment of Urticaria in accordance to the signs, treatment, and rules of Chinese medicine, this thesis aims to provide the fundamental treatment formula and the supporting data and thoughts.METHODS: With references to several major dictionaries: 《Formula Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine》 , 《Surgical Formula of Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine》 , 《Modern study for Formula Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine》 , in the disciple of formulae including journals of TCM, relevant books, and data from electronic network, a total of 320 relevant internal formulae are collected and analyzed statistically by using the software of Microsoft Excel. RESULTS: The most popular individual medicinals that have been used over 40 times to treat this disease include ledebouriella (fang-feng, Ledebouriellae Radix), licorice (gan-cao, Glycyrrhizae), schizonepeta (jing-jie, Schizonepetae Herba er Flos), cicada molting (chan-tui, Cicadae Periostracum), tangkuei (dang-gui, Angelicae Sinensis Radix), lingusticum (chuan-xiong, Lingustici Rhizoma), flavescent sophora (ku-shen, Dophorae Flavescentis Radix), fresh rehmannia (xian-di-huang, Rehmanniae Radix Recens), red peony (chi-shao-yao, Paeoniae Radix Rubra), tribulus (ci-ji-li, Tribuli Fructus), dictamnus (bai-xian-pi, Dictamni Radicis Cortex), poria (fu-ling, Poria), scutellaria (huang-qin, Scutellariae Radix), notopterygium (qiang-huo, Notopterygii Rhizoma), mint (bo-he, Menthae Herba), ephedra (ma-huang, Ephedrae Herba), liquor, ovate atractylodes (bai-zhu, Atractylodis Ovatae Rhizoma) and bitter orange (zhi-ke, Aurantii Fructus). From ledebouriella (fang-feng, Ledebouriellae Radix) to tribulus (ci-ji-li, Tribuli Fructus) are the top ten most popular medicinals being used (taking away licorice and adding notopterygium). The ten most popular patterns of this disease include wind-heat invading the exterior, blood deficiency engendering wind, wind-damp-heat depression, heat stagnant in blood-aspect, wind-cold invading the exterior, dual deficiency of Qi-blood, insecurity resulted from external deficiency, damp-heat in stomach and intestines, disharmony between Chong and Ren vessels, and stasis-obstruction in flesh and interstices.
