Objective: to explore the method of extracting essential oils in Pinus massoniana needles; the effects of the essential oil for the blood pressure and LVH(left ventricular hypertrophy) and the level of NO (serum nitric oxide) in 2k1c (two-kidney, one clipped) hypertensive rats. Methods: using the water distilling method to extract essential oils, and Karber's method to observe the LD50, and the rattail-cuff method to measure the blood pressure of 2klc hypertensive rats, measuring left ventricular mass index(LVMI), observing the difference of cardiac muscle fibers in the HE stained tissue slices of the left ventricle, and Griess Reagent s method to measure the level of serum NO and using test tube to explore the effect of blood coagulation. Results: the LD50 injecting essential oils to mice's abdominal cavity is 3. 738ml/kg; the blood pressures have no obvious difference between the model group and treated group. But LVMT of the model group is higher than the treated, and the cardiac muscle fiber of model group bulked, and the level of serum NO of treated group is higher. Conclusion: the essential oils in Pinus massoniana needles have visible pharmacological actions for the cardiac cell in 2klc hypertensive rats, furthermore, this action has not been obtained through lowering the systolic pressure activity.
