Objective: To investigate the distribution of syndrome of traditional Chinese medicine of coronary heart disease through the collation of the data of in-patients with coronary heart disease from 2003 to 2004. And develop treatment principle of clearing heat and eliminating phlegm, activating blood and resolving stasis according to the results. Observe the clinical therapeutic effect of Huang Lian Wen Dan Tang on coronary heart disease and angina. Methods: 335 patients with coronary heart disease were classified according to dialectic criterion and analyzed from the aspect of epidemiology. 26 patients with coronary heart disease were classified into control group and therapy group to compare the curative effect of the syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine. Results: Most of coronary heart diseases belong to heat syndrome, and the type of phlegm-heat and blood stasis is preponderant. Patients with coronary heart disease accompanying with hyperlipaemia and smoking in the group of heat syndrome is markedly more than patients in the group of Qi deficiency(P<0.05). And there is not marked difference between the patients with coronary heart disease accompanying with diabetes and hypertension in the groups of heat syndrome and Qi deficiency (P>0.05). Patients with coronary heart disease accompanying with hyperlipaemia in the group of phlegm-heat and blood stasis is markedly more than patients in the group of Yin deficiency endogenous heat (P<0.05). Patients with coronary heart disease accompanying with diabetes in the group of Yin deficiency endogenous heat is markedly more than patients in the group of (P<0.05). Conclusions: Heat syndrome exist in coronary heart disease and is preponderant. It is concluded that Yin deficiency leading to excess of Yang is the one of the basis of this disease. The clinical therapeutic effect of Huang Lian Wen Dan Tang on coronary heart disease and angina is marked. The important treatment principle of clearing heat and eliminating phlegm, activating blood and resolving stasis on coronary heart disease is derived.
