The paper consists two parts: literature review and experimental study.First Section: literature SummaryThere are two literature reviews. The first article introduces the therapeutic progression in the studies on thespinal cord injury (SCI) of the late years at home and abroad. It contains these major portions: operationtreatment, medication, physical therapeutics. The second article is review on the clinical surveys andexperimental surveys of the acupuncture and moxibustion on the SCI in rats..Second Section: Experimental ResearchObjective: To discuss the protective mechanism of electro acupuncture(EA) in the acute spinal cord injury(ASCI).Methods: Rats were divided into five groups stochasticly: Blank Group, Sham Operated Group, ModelGroup, Drug Group, EA group. The model rats were made a spinal cord contusion by using a modified Allen'smethod.(1) comprehensive evaluation of neural function of SCI rats by CBS.(2) detect the calcium ion contentin serum and injury local tissues after injury by MTB method;.(3) detect the NO content in serum and injurylocal tissues after injury. Results: 24 hours after SCI,(1) Compared with the model group, The score of CBS level in EA Group andDrug group were significant differently (P<0.01).(2) Compared with the Blank Group and the Sham OperatedGroup, the calcium ion and NO content in serum and injury local tissues were increased significantly in the EAGroup, Model Group and Drug Group.(3)The calcium ion and NO content in serum and injury local tissues ofEA Group and the Drug Group decreased significantly as compared with those in Model Group(P<0.01).Conclusion: EA had protective effect on the ASCI through depressing the calcium ion and NO content.EA can retrieve calcium overload and regulate the changes of NO that was induced by SCI.. With thepurpose of lucubrating the mechanism of EA, it is very important to understand the signal transductionpathway that is mediated by the calcium ion and NO after SCI.
