Pulmonary infection is a common infection in the elderly with the incidence and mortality much higher than those of young people. Aging of the whole population, application of hormone and immunodepressant, and occurrence of drug-resistance bacteria give rise to the high incidence and mortality. Pulmonary infection in the elderly remains one of the toughest problems for doctors throughout the world. The objective of the study is to investigate the incidence of accompanied syndrome of damp-heat in middle-jiao, syndrome features and main points of syndrome differentiation of pulmonary infection in the elderly. retrospective study is performed to investigate the syndrome feature of Chinese Medicine and clinical study of modern medicine. Based on the previous clinical experience and records, diagnostic criteria of the syndromes and the accompanied syndrome of damp-heat in middle-jiao have been determined.A total of 152 patients≥65 years old and 81 adults < 65 years old meeting the diagnostic criteria were enrolled. Epidemiological data, clinical features, tongue condition and pulse of pulmonary infection in the elderly are recorded in our study. Syndrome differentiation and classification, and statistical analysis were performed in line with the syndrome diagnostic criteria of Chinese Medicine. Incidence of accompanied syndrome of damp-heat in middle-jiao and the syndrome features were investigated. The results revealed that the incidence of accompanied syndrome of damp-heat in middle-jiao in the elderly is much higher than that of young people. The syndrome of damp-heat in middle-jiao usually occurs on the basis of internal injury of zang and fu organs, which is induced by exogenous pathogens and manifested as a syndrome of deficiency of root and excess of branch, complexity of deficiency and excess with excess being the dominant pathological changes.
