Pulmonary infection is one of the commonly seen diseases in clinical practice, belonging to epidemic febrile disease, Wind-warm Syndrome and lung-heatsyndrome in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. The paper discusses thepathogen, pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation and therapeutic rules of pulmonaryinfection by studying on the theory, experiment and clinical data of lung-heatsyndrome.In theoretical research, the article holds that the pathogenic heat is the maincause of pulmonary infection. The basic pathogenesis is accumulation of pathogenicheat in the lung, causing the lung failing to disperse and descend and formation ofphlegm and injury of pulmonary collateral. Cough, phlegm and dyspnea are the mainclinical manifestation of pulmonary infection. There are close relationships amongthem, and the symptoms always coexist together, we put forward the majortherapeutic principles of clearing away heat, ventilating the lung Qi and resolvingphlegm based on the pathogeneses of pulmonary infection. Clearing away lung-heatis to eliminate the pathogen, ventilating the lung Qi to improve the dispersing anddescending function of it, resolving phlegm to remove the pathologic products. Dueto the pathological changes and factors in the morbid process, it is necessary tomodify the recipes and combine other therapeutic methods, including detoxifying, promoting blood circulation, purgation, nourishing yin to enhance the treatmenteffect. In experimental research, we reproduce the mouse model of viral pneumonia, observe the effects of Qingfeihuatan decoction on lung parenchyma injury of themouse virus pneumonia model. The result show that Qingfeihuatan decoction has theeffect of anti-virus, alleviating the pneumonia inflammation and inhibiting pulmonary consolidation. In addition, we found that the Qingfeihuatan decoction can lower thelevel of YNF-αeffectively in serum, and markedly increase the CD4+、CD4+/CD8+ inlymphocyte and the activity of the NK cell. The results indicate that the therapeuticeffects of the formula may be related to regulating the immune function of the body. Thus the research can provide the pharmacology basis for treating pulmonaryinfection by Clearing away lung-heat, ventilating the lung Qi and resolving phlegm, and widen the therapeutic principles and methods of pulmonary infection.
