Sonnertia ovata is a genuine mangrove plant grown in tropic coast zone which widely distributed in the coast zone of HaiNan, GuangDong, GuangXi, FuJian and TaiWan province or district. The pounded mushy fruit of Sonnertia casedaris is used to cure strain, Its fruit, leaf and flower are used for internal medicine.Studied on the chemical constituents of Sonnertia ovata by all kinds of chromatographical techniques such as silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography etc. From the 70% ethanol extract of the trunk of Sonneratia ovata, by solvent extraction, 20 constituents were isolated, by means of physicochemical evidences and NMR-spectroscopic analysis methods, 16 compounds were identified.Ocotillol(1), Ursolic acid(2), Betulin(3), Lupeol(4), Lup-20(29)-ene-1β, 3β-diol(5),β-Sitosterol(6), Stigmast-4-en-3-one(7), Vanillin(8), Acetovanillone(9), Gallic acid(10), Aromadendrol(11), Isoaromadendrol(12),α-Spinasterol(13), 3, 3'-di-O-methylellagic acid(14), 4'-O-methyi-cis-hinokire sinol(15) and Daucosterol(16) were isolated from Sonnertia ovata for the first time. Except(2) (4) (6) (8) (14), others were isolated from this genus for the first time.Furthermore, compound 3 showed somewhat anti-tumor activities to BGC-823 cell.
