OBJECTIVE: We made a primary study to investigate the frequence of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) in diabetic patients with cerebral vascular disease (CVD) and assess the risk factors related with ARAS.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 61 subjects with CVD more than 40 years old were recruited in our hospital between 2006.5. and 2007.2 .All subjects underwent angiography of cerebral vascular and renal artery and the data concerning possible clinical and biochemical parameters of RAS were collected.RESULTS:①Of the 61 patients,16.3%(10/61) had ARAS, 3.2%(2/61) had significant ARAS and 6.6%(4/61) had bilateral ARAS .②18 diabetic patients with CVD,11.2% (2/18) had ARAS ,of whom 5.6%(1/18) had significant stenosis;43 nondiabetic patients with CVD,18.6%(8/43) had ARAS,of whom 2.3%(1/43) had significant ARAS.But there was no significant difference of frequence of ARAS between diabetic and nondiabetic patients (P>0.05).③In diabetic subgroup, score of uncontrolled serum lipids and blood pressure in patients with ARAS was higher than patients without ARAS,while there was no significant difference about score of uncontrolled blood glucose and the mean score.④There was a significant positive correlation between the presence of ARAS and the severity of CVD in all patients with CVD and those patients without diabetes mellitus (P=0.013,r=0.319;p=0.03,r=0.331, respectivly). While there was no this correlation in diabetic patients with CVD.CONCLUSION: There was a tendency that the frequency of significant ARAS in diabetic patients with CVD was higher than those nondiabetic patients with CVD; Diabetic patients who did not treat at the target level in history were more likely to develop ARAS; and there was some correlation between the frequence of ARAS and severity of CVD. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the frequence of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis(ARAS) in diabetic patients with peripheral vascular disease(PVD),and assess the risk factors related with ARAS.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total of 34 diabetic subjects with PVD more than 40 years of age were recruited in our hospital between 2003.1 and 2007.2 .All subjects underwent angiography of lower extremity artery and renal artery and the data concerning possible clinical and biochemical parameters of RAS were collected.RESULTS:①Of the 34 diabetic patients,47.1%(16/34) had ARAS, 2.9%(1/34) had significant ARAS, 44.2%(15/34) had mild ARAS,and 5.9%(2/34) had bilateral ARAS.②There was no significant correlation between the presence and severity of ARAS and the severity of PVD.③There was no significant difference about uncontrolled score of serum lipids, blood glucose, blood pressure and the sum of the above three parameters between patients with ARAS and those without ARAS.CONCLUSION:The frequence of ARAS was 47.1%(16/34) in diabetic patients with PVD.And there might be some relationship between the presence of ARAS and PVD. For uncontrolled diabetic patients, who might be more likely to develop ARAS.
