Ni Beads Britain, Diagnosis And Treatment Of Stomach Diseases In Children Academic Thinking And Clinical Experience

Professor Ni Zhuying(chief physician)has been engaged in pediatrics clinic,teaching,scientific research of traditional Chinese medicine for more than 50 years. She has accumulated large clinical experience,especially in diagnosing and treating of the cough with dyspnea disease,the kidney disease,the spleen-stomach disease.By studying the old cases,the relevant papers,books and the early studied records of Professor Ni,listening to her analysis on the clinical cases,this article summarizes the academic thought and clinical experience of Professor Ni Zhuying in the diagnosis and treatment of the pediatric spleen-stomach diseases.The first part of the thesis focuses on the academic thought of Professor Ni Zhuying in the treatment oft he pediatric spleen-stomach diseases.Professor Ni always pays great attention to protection of the spleen and stomach from the injury.She believes that this idea need to been kept not only in treating the pediatric spleen-stomach diseases itselve but also in any other pediatric diseases.Professor Ni Zhuying proposed the theory of"inhibiting the liver to strengthen the spleen".The theory is based on "the liver being liable to excess,the spleen tending to insufficiency" in children,which is Ming Dynasty physician Wanquan' academic viewpoint,and combined with her clinical experience.She advocated that appropriate methods of treating the liver should be selected according to the disease's cold or heat,deficiency or excess as well as the characteristic of symptoms when the treatment of the pediatric spleen-stomach disease.In sum,to strengthen the spleen is the main method of treatment,inhibiting the liver is the subsidiary but necessary one. In addition,she is good at treating the diseases of five ZANG-organs through the recuperation of the spleen and stomach.The second part of the thesis focuses on the characteristics of Professor Ni Zhuying in treating the pediatric spleen-stomach diseases.She thinks that treatment of the spleen-stomach diseases must comply with the principles——the spleen must keep its normal function of transportation and the stomach must keep its normal function of propelling food downward;Treatment of the liver must grasp the character——the substance of the liver belonging to YIN while its function to YANG, easing the affected liver to inhibit its hyperfunction,invigorating for deficiency and reducing for excess to soothe liver-QI and harmonize between the liver and spleen. She usually uses the herbal medicines,which can expell wind such as Suye,Fangfeng,Baizhi,Gegen,Xuchangqing,etc,and herbal compatibilities such as Huangqi & Taizisen,Cangzhu &Baizhu,Gegen&Huoxiang and so on in the prescription of treating the spleen-stomach disease.The third part of the thesis focuses on the clinical experience of Professor Ni Zhuying in the diarrhea,functional abdominal pain and anorexia in children.①On the pediatric diarrhea,Professor Ni often asks the etiological factors in detail,checks the lip,the tongue,pharynx and the perianus carefully;Before treatment,she often accurately distinguish BIAO or BEN,chronic or acute and cold or heat,deficiency or excess of the disease.She thinks that the main pathogenesis of the acute diarrhea is dysfunction of the spleen in transportation,then damp stagnating in the intestine. Dampness is the particularly critical factor in this disease.The main pathogenesis of the chronic diarrhea includes both the BEN——weakness of the spleen-stomach and BIAO——water-damp,damp-heat,dyspepsia.As to the nature of the clinical manifestations,the simple deficiency symptom is much less than the deficiency symptom mingling with excess one.②On the pediatric functional abdominal pain, Professor Ni thinks the main pathogensis is that abnormal ascending-descending of QI in middle-JIAO,stagnation of QI-blood in meridian or deficiency of YANG of middle-JIAO bring about pain.The disease is located in the spleen-stomach,the intestine,and the liver is also involved.According to "the theory of inhibiting the liver to strengthen the spleen",decoction SHAO YAO GAN CAO and some herbal medicines of expelling wind are usually used for treatment based on differentiation of symptoms and signs.③On the pediatric anorexia,Professor Ni thinks the main pathogenesis is dysfunction of the spleen in transportation.The disease is mainly located in the spleen-stomach,and the liver is closely concerned.Invigorating the spleen-stomach and soothing liver-QI is the principal methods of treatment.At the same time,parents should be guided about the correct concept of childcare for their cooperation.Moreover,several medical cases of diagnosing and treating above diseases by Professor Ni Zhuying were appendixed next each disease in order to verify the efficacy.
