During the changing of the era, we have seen great influence that technique made to documentary film, and the significance of the protection of region culture. While the audience is accepting the dissemination via mainstream media, protection strategy of culture shall be carried on within the process of this propagation. Though the point of dispute for culture is varying over time, the opposition between tradition and modern, or between elite and popular, still exits. It effects on communication environment, divide social culture into political culture, popular culture and elite culture. The compound ratio of these three kinds of culture has changed, and further, they are beginning to get mixed under globalization. Thus, it's necessary for us to study social ideology when we are analyzing the impact that documentary film made to the communication of regional culture.This thesis studies Shaanxi historical and cultural documentary film, connects "documentary film", "Shaanxi culture" and "communication effect" together, studies four typical documentary films, "Da Ming Palace", "Monk XuanZang", "Chang An", "The QinLing" one by one through text analysis, and displays how they represent Shaanxi history and culture. At the same time, this thesis analyzes the communicational behavior of mainstream press in the era of mass media; summarize the significant meaning of documentary film, and the unique charm of Shaanxi history and culture carried by documentary film. This thesis digs deep in how Shaanxi history culture is effectively disseminated and stabilized in Chinese traditional culture through documentary. It can be seen, at the time that soft power of culture is gradually becoming the backbone of cultural industry, Documentary has been playing an important role in this industrial chain. While documentary is leading more audience focus on Shaanxi culture, how can we manage to make this kind of focus a virtuous circle, still needs our consideration.
