Yuan Dynasty Historical Geography

Historical geography is a science which mainly summarizes the geographical environment change and law of historical period.Recently, many branches of research in the field of historical geography have achieved brilliant achievements, but so far it is still the weak link of the academic researches. Compiling historical geography has been becoming an academic issue needing prompt solution, which has important academic value and realistic significance in academic theory construction and development, the study of Yuan history and national history and the enlightenment and reference in modern society etc.Against this background, although the thesis does not have overall discussion of historical geography, it chose an important phase—Yuan Dynasty to study, so it fills in the gap in the research. The thesis is divided into six chapters:chapter 1 is the introduction, it mainly introduces the title reason and meaning, research route and method, academic history review, research content and feature, etc.; the second part—official history compilation and historical geography, chooses and analyses historical geography chapters and contents of "Song history" "Liao history" "Jin history" revised in Yuan Dynasty. It is considered to have the characteristics:rich chapters and centralized contents in the historical geography of official history, involving extensive domains and credible contents, focus urban historical geography; chapter 3 is the chorography compilation and historical geography, on the basis of discussing Yuan Dynasty chorography compilation's development, it is focus on "Da yuan da yi tong zhi" and "Lei bian chang an zhi", discussing Yuan Dynasty chorography compilation's status,and contribution to the Ancient Chinese historical geography from the standpoint of historical geography archives; chapter 4 is the key point—individual geography achievements:it not only explores Wang Ymglin, Hu Sansheng and "Zi zhi tong jian zhu", Ma Duanlin and "Tongkao literature" etc., but also concludes their academic characteristics:such as Wang Yinglin being great at geographical research, Hu Sansheng specializing in geography textual research, and Na Duanlin having remarkable achievements of geographical evolution and the ethnic historical geography; chapter 5 is Yuan Dynasty historical geography, which focus on discussing cartography theory and the historical maps done in Yuan Dynasty; the last chapter is the conclusion, through analyzing the historical geography characteristics of Yuan Dynasty (base on much of the voluminous literature; evolution geography as main subjects, and with incomparable achievements; contents is all inclusive, system is complete), development reason(influence of evolution geography, importance of government, underlying cause is that scholars individual interests and culture quality in Yuan Dynasty, and the influence of western geography), status and contribution, it may safely draw a conclusion: the historical geography in Yuan Dynasty achieved fruitful results in inheritance and development foundation of evolution geography, it is the vigorous development period of ancient historical geography, and plays an important role in connecting the preceding and the following periods, adds much new content to the ancient historical geography and puts it forward, and brings about profound impacts on history, geography and ethnology, etc.
