As is trait or attitude which is related to emotion, and a defense mechanism or coping strategies, can help individuals in pain situation to convert ideas and reinterpretate the unreasonable world, is also a method to reduce individual mental pressure. Sense of humor is a trait or an ability to cope with environmental problems, which mainly emphasize the application of humor. Emotional intelligence is the ability to process emotional information, mainly displayed in the field of the activities of emotions. Emotional Intelligence has a close relationship with sense of humor. Adjustment is a process which the individual internal psychological system response to the external environmental change, and a process which the individual accomplish socialization and personalization. Good adaptation mainly represent mental health. To explore whether sense of humor and emotional intelligence could effect the adjustment of college students, offer students new ideas for positive social adaptation.Based on the extensive literature and updated findings at home and abroad, we address the purpose of this study which is to explore characteristics of undergraduates' sense of humor, humor style, EI, adjustment and the relationship among them. The present study investigates 632 college students in Shandong Province with Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale, Humor Style scale, Emotional Intelligence scale, Chinese College Student Adjustment Scale. Then the survey responses were analyzed by the SPSS17.0 and LISREL8.70 statistical software package for exploratory factor analysis(EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), Cronbach a reliability analysis,validity analysis, mean, standard deviation, the independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, regression analysis and mediating effect. The findings and conclusions were as follows:(1) The revised Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale had high reliability and validity. Five dimensions were confirmed:they were humor comprehension, using humor in social context, humor coping, attitude toward humor, tendency of laugh.(2) There's a significant gender difference on humor comprehension and attitude toward humor. There's a significant urban-rural difference on using humor in social context and sense of humor.(3) There's a significant gender difference on four humor styles.(4) There's a significant gender difference on emotional intelligence, using emotional, social competence and emotional evaluation of others. There's a significant school type difference on emotional evaluation of others. There's a significant urban-rural difference on emotional control, social competence and emotional intelligence. (5) There's a significant gender difference on Interpersonal adaption, learning adaption, campus life adaption, career adaptation, self-adaptation, satisfaction and adaptation. There's a significant grade difference on campus life adaption, and satisfaction. There's a significant urban-rural difference on Interpersonal adaption, learning adaption, campus life adaption, emotion adaptation, satisfaction and adaptation. There's a significant school type difference on learning adaption, campus life adaption, satisfaction.(6) Multidimensional sense of humor and emotional intelligence had a significant correlation with adaption. Aggressive and self-defeating humor had a significant correlation with all dimension of emotion intelligence and adaption except satisfaction. Affiliative and self-enhancing humor had a significant correlation with all dimension of emotion intelligence and adaption.(7) Emotional intelligence has mediating effect between sense of humor and adaption.(8) Emotional intelligence has mediating effect between affiliative humor and adaption.
