Reeducation through labor is administrative penalties to take in and reeducate the criminal who have violated the law but not gravely enough to get a criminal sanction. It means the centers of reeducation through labor shoulder the responsibility of reeducating all misdemeanants.In China, it is a giant group. Lots of surveys reveal that the special group suffers worse mental health state; to conduct mental intervention among this group is necessary. At present, mental intervention targeted on this group and relevant study is very limited. This job is done not by psychological specialists but by policemen who guard the misdemeanants, the methods they use are relatively simple and not supported or proved by theories.In view of this situation above, to explore effective technical method targeted on the misdemeanants, and help them improve mental health state is very important.In this research we used narrative therapy to conduct mental intervention for the five misdemeanants who were chose from "Center of Reeducation Through Labor for Women in Shannxi Province" and "Center of Reeducation Through Labor in Xi'an" We used case study to explore whether narrative therapy is suitable to misdemeanants, whether narrative therapy is an effective method for them. At the same time, the scales of Self-rated Health Measurement Scale 1.0Version(SRHMS), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) and Self-consistency and Congruence Scale(SCCS) were used to measure change of mental health state after psychological intervention.Results:1. After mental intervention, the subjects' score on Self-rated Mental Health Measurement Scale increased. The score of number 1 subject raised from70 to 132; the score of the number 2 subject raised from 65 to 139; the score of number 3 subject raised from 60 to 78; the score of number 4 subject raised from 8 to 38; the score of the number 6 subject raised from 43 to 73;2. After mental intervention, the subjects' score on Self-rated Social Health Measurement Scale increased. The score of number 1 subject raised from 55 to 74;the score of the number 2 subject raised from 25 to 100; the score of number 3 raised from 57 to 103; the score of number 4 subject raised from 13 to 35; the score of the number 6 subject raised from 34 to 57;3. After mental intervention, the subjects' score on Beck Depression Inventory decreased. The score of number 1 subject reduced from 22 to 5; the score of the number 2 subject reduced from40 to 14; the score of number 3 subject reduced from 29 to 19; the score of number 4 subject reduced from 47 to 28; the score of the number 6 reduced from 29 to 18;4. After mental intervention, the subjects' score on Self-consistency and Congruence Scale decreased. The score of number 1 subject reduced from 105 to 71; the score of the number 2 subject reduced from 107 to79; the score of number 3 subject reduced from104 to 76; the score of number 4 subject reduced from 139 to 103; t the score of the number 6 reduced from 116 to 97;Conclusions:1. Narrative therapy improved mental health level of subjects effectively.2. Narrative therapy improved social health level of subjects effectively.3. Narrative therapy reduced depression of subjects effectively.4. Narrative therapy improved self-consistency and congruence of subjects effectively.5. The plan of narrative therapy is effective and operational, mental health states of the misdemeanant improved, and the related psychological problems were resolved too.6. Narrative therapy is suitable to mental intervention for misdemeanants.
