It has been more than 10 years since China implemented school mental health education in 1994. However, many results of today' s researches show that the mental health of our children has not been improved during the ten years. The effects of school mental health education are not satisfying in China.For the purpose of improving the effects of the school mental health in China, I conduct the research about the definitions, standards of mental health, and the history, objectives and contents of school mental health Education based on document acquisition and analysis. In order to find the deeper causes of inefficiency of our school mental health education, I analyze the ideas and practice of school mental services in USA and investigate the real world of research and practice of school mental health education in China. Based on the theories of pedagogy, psychology and sociology, I conduct comparative research about School mental health school education between China and USA, and I propose some suggestions on improving the effectiveness of school mental health education in China.This dissertation is composed of foreword and seven chapters:The foreword describes the seriousness of mental problems existing among youths and children and the harm to them, and analyzes the importance and necessity of school mental health education.Chapter one introduces the different definitions and standards of mental health defined from different researchers. I analyze different factors in detail that influence mental wellness of youths and children. Then I give out my definition and standard based on the relationships between individual and himself, individual and others, individual and society.Chapter two clarifies some confused concepts in school mental health education, and analyzes the objectives, contents and models of school mental health education in China. I also recall the history of school mental health education in the world, emphasize that there is a consequentecological tendency in school mental health education.Chapter three analyzes the theoretical foundation of school mental health education. Herbart and Cyxomjnhcknn highlight the importance of the mental wellness of students in their Pedagogical issues. The inclusive education emphasize that all children include the handicaps have the right to be educate in same environment, which make an great challenge for school mental education. The psychoanalysis, behaviorism, cognitivism, humanstism, of psychology give many technical supports to school mental health education. The anomie issue of Durkheim and the alienation issue of Karl Marx and Frankfurt school analyze how the ill-structure society distorted the sprit of human being s, and emphasize that the society is the most important factor which influence the mental health of human. The functionalism, labelling theory, symbolic interactionalism of sociology and the sociological methodology of value-neutrality introduce some new paradigm into school mental health education.Chapter four and five explores the ideas and practices of school mental health services in USA on the based of analyzing its history, contents, models, system and two case studies including prime mental health project and Baltimore Model. Based on the research above, I conclude several characteristics about school mental health services in USA, they are demand-driven, student-centered, practicality, muti-techniques, and ecologicalism and so on.Chapter six studies the current state of school mental health education in shanghai city, find that there are many problems concealing behind the flourishing states of the school mental health education in China.Chapter seven analyzes the problems of school mental health education in China, and explores the deeper causes of these problems on the based of comparative research on school mental health education between China and USA.
