Redundancy as one of the three characteristics of language, is one of the important concept of linguistics. For a long time, "redundancy" was as a negative factors, equivalent to "prolixity", "nonsense" and "superfluity", etc. In a verbal communication process, people tried to avoid it. But as the studies of pragmatic becoming more deeply, people pay more and more attention to the positive role of "redundancy", redundancy phenomenon inevitably have a negative effect, but also have the positive side. The expresser exchange thoughts in words, should making the other side understand, or else the talking will not continue; The receiver's understanding has certain selectivity, accepting the information according to their own understanding; The ideal state of a verbal communication is that the information to hear is equivalent closer to say, the less information gap, and the effect of communication is better. But the ideal state of information equivalent often meets by chance rather than get by choice. The verbal communication redundancy is necessary to both sides. This article is about to explore the redundant phenomenon and discuss from the semantic, pragmatic aspects, based on the result of senior's research on the verbal communication.Redundant information is a relative concept. Achieving a verbal communication process, namely coding-transfer-decoding process, according to the requisite amount of information communication, we can divide into information insufficiency, the information is modest and information redundancy. This division is also from the perspective of convey person and receiver. Speakers express driven by the communicative purpose, organize and mobilize information related to the brain, cognitive processing, eventually confirm their communicative intention. Then make that information into words signal which convey to the ears of the other side in the forms of ultrasound, and activate the related content in the brain of the recipient who reflect and understand the communicative intention. How much the information speakers can provide is moderate, depending on the realization of verbal communicative intention. If the recipient has understood the intention, but the expresser provide superfluous information, this is redundant. Redundancy is omnipresent in verbal communication, having a strong association with verbal communication process. The realization of communicative purpose in verbal communication and redundant information is not dissociable, redundancy information without the carrier which is verbal communication. Verbal communication, as a kind of social behavior, is an activity by language for the communication method. The main form and means of human communication with is the language. They communicate with each other by language sign. But to communication process in the big language environment, we will need to involve non-verbal communication. Wanting to complete discuss the redundant phenomenon of verbal communication, we will at big language environment, make the whole human communication means as a starting point.The redundancy phenomenon of Language, essentially, is the semantic and pragmatic mismatched, which is the pragmatic phenomenon that the provided by expresser more than the semantic amount of acceptance and understanding recipients demand. To the significance of language, vocabulary, sentence, and textual level are summarized in this paper. In word meaning, words meaning has not only the literal meaning, also including relative factors situation significance and communication, psychology, and so on. In verbal communication process, from the perspective observation of communicators, communicative intention, redundancy phenomena exist is meaningful. In the pragmatic aspects, redundancy phenomenon is an effective means of communication. The communicator can have great significance on the redundant information; context is also a necessary influence element on redundancy meaning. Judging from the pragmatic principles, the redundant information violated the cooperation principle communication need to comply with, but received good communication effect, which accords with the politeness principle which is one of communication principle, playing an important role in communication effect. Finally, this paper proposes the problems needing attention in using redundant information, grasp the use of redundancy, appropriate use of redundant information, the correct understanding of dual redundant information, thus has certain help for verbal communication.
