Wang Yao, Chinese famous literary researcher and the founder of Modern Chinese Literature, with strong academic skill and wide vision versed in ancient and modern learning,made great achievements in the researchs of Middle Ages literature,Modern Chinese literature and Lu Xun.For the decades,Wang Yao has studied in the academic field, and his research methods and ideas are appreciated and used by many other researchers,which stands the long time test.This paper attempts to systematically study the development of Wang Yao's research,with a more objective point of view selecting several representatives of his academic research,and analyzes and summarizes his thoughts about literature history scientificly and comprehensively from the perspective of academic history in order to discover the exemplary methods and ideas.The dessertation has three parts.The first part starts from Wang Yao's early academic development especially his early research(Middle Ancient Literature)and the achievement('History of Middle Ancient Literature'),dissussing early academic path of his choice and concrete ideas and methods about ancient literature research.The second part,beginning with Wang Yao's academic change and taking his work'History of Chinese New Literature'as the study object,analyzes the succession of the work's features,research ideas and methods with the background of the time.The third part comprehensively conculdes the features of Wang Yao's thinking about literature history which the basis is constituted basicly the view of historical literature influenced by Lu Xun and the view of objective historical literature according to the fact,establishing a typical academic research methods.At the same time,the view of great literature history going with times makes the Wang Yao's literary thoughts produce new material increasingly and inspire other researchers to continue exploring consantly.
