As to human beings, Language is a tool to exchange ideas. Generally speaking, people's thoughts mainly rely on language to communicate. Vocabulary is a very important component of language, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary together constitute the three elements of language, and it plays a key role in language learning and language communication. Vocabulary is the cornerstone of language and the carrier of pronunciation and grammar, vocabulary. People can't express anything without it. Linguists McCarthy said:"No matter how well a person learns grammar, no matter how beautiful his speech is, but if he has not enough words to express his feelings or understand other person's views and ideas, he cannot use the language to communicate with others. Similarly, for the English language, after the grasp of basic phonetics and grammar knowledge, a person's English language level mainly depends on his vocabulary. So, people usually use vocabulary as the standard to judge a person's English level.However, our college as a junior college, many non-English major students have a lot of difficulties in English learning, most of which lack interests in English, and some of which even are fed up with English. The most important point is that there exist a series of problems in English vocabulary learning, such as; the lack of vocabulary, the confusion of parts of speech, and a poor master of morphological changes of words. Such problems seriously affect the quality of English teaching and the efficiency of the non-English major students' English learning. The paper does some researches in order to seek the effective measures to solve the problems.This research is on the basis of students' questionnaire, through the pretesting of English vocabulary, daily teaching practice and students' interviews, to analyze the present situation of the English vocabulary learning, find out problems and the reasons, and put forward reasonable hypothesis of countermeasures. Through post testing, to prove the efficiency of the hypothesis of countermeasures. According to the data of experiments, we can from the following six aspects to promote non-English major students'English vocabulary learning and improve the quality of our non-English majors' English vocabulary learning. This research is also significant to improve the scores in CET-4and CET-6 and the overall teaching level of English of our college.1. Enhance students' self-confidence, improve the students'enthusiasm of learning vocabulary.2. Cultivate autonomous learning ability.3. Make Vocabulary learning methods better, improve their learning efficiency.4. Create favorable learning environment, and build a good learning environment.5. To strengthen the construction of teaching materials, improve the teaching contents.6. Optimize learning resourcesFirst, this paper briefly reviews the achievements in the research on vocabulary learning in and out of China. It also explains the significance of vocabulary learning and the reasons, the methods and the application value of the study.Chapter one analyzes the present actualities of the junior college students'vocabulary learning in our school on the basis of vocabulary learning questionnaires, the pre-testing of vocabulary, students' interviews and the daily teaching practice.Chapter two discusses some English vocabulary problems and analyzes the reasons.Chapter three puts forwards some solutions to English vocabulary learning problems for non-English majors in our junior college.Last, it sums up the main points of this paper.
