Among the poems in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Ruan Ji's Yonghuai poetry plays an extremely important role. There are many interpretation and comments on Yonghuai poetry in the history, which have great influence on the research of Yonghuai poetry. With analyzing the history of the interpretation of Yonghuai poetry, this paper discriminates two methods of interpretation of Yonghuai poetry and states that the Ruan Ji's poems are not lampoons on politics. The philosophy stated in the poems is not the only achievement of Ruan Ji's poems. The specific achievement of Ruan Ji's poems is that the poems focus on expressing the "sadness" deeply. People suffer from the sadness when they are not able to find out the significance of life. This paper states that in Yonghuai poetry, Ruan Ji attaches great importance to the vivid expression of emotion. Ruan Ji also pays attention on the change of structure, the abundant use of question and the contradiction in the poems.The exordium introduces the research findings of Ruan Ji's poems and states the method of research in this paper. Besides the exordium there are five chapters in this paper.The first chapter investigates the history of the interpretation of Yonghuai poetry, from Yan Yanzhi to Huang Kan and Chen Bojun. It mainly discusses the use and doubt about the interpretation of politics.The second chapter focuses on the rethink of the in interpretation of politics. With investigating the basis of the interpretation, the change of Ruan Ji's political attitude, and poems of Ruan Ji and other poets, this paper states that the Ruan Ji's poems are not lampoons on politics.The third chapter expresses the rethink of philosophical interpretation of Ruan Ji's Yonghuai poetry. Many scholars believe that the philosophical emotion and pursuit is the main achievement of Ruan Ji's poems. This paper points out that the expression of philosophical emotion in poems is the fashion of poems in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The strong sadness and the pursuit of calm and unfettered mind expressed in Ruan Ji's poems are different.The forth chapter analyze the source of the sadness in Yonghuai poetry. It comes from the distress about life elapsing. Ruan Ji holds a completely negative attitude about the whole world even the immortal things he pursuits for. Form this, this paper states that the sadness in Ruan Ji's poems comes from the consideration about the insignificant life. The fifth chapter investigates the method of expressing emotion in Yonghuai poetry. This paper states that in Yonghuai poetry, Ruan Ji attaches great importance to the vivid expression of emotion. Ruan Ji also pays attention on the change of structure, the abundant use of question and the contradiction in the poems.
