Explore The Symbolism Of Dramatic Art

Symbolism, which is the earliest and most influential genre in Euramerican modernist literature, originally manifested in poetry fied and after 1890s have gradually affected drama, regarding Maeterlinck, Ibsen and others as founders along with a large number of symbolic dramatic work. This dissertation focuses on the study of the evolution of western symbolism drama, employing the "parallel research" and "impact study" theory in comparative literature with the heredity and convergence of the representative writers---Ibsen, Maeterlinck and Shaquille O'Neal in the process of symbolism drama development and the diversity and creativity in their production process as the weft and meridian. Furthermore, we have tried to obtain the artistic nature and " life trajectory"of symbolism drama.This dissertation is divided into three parts, including introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction part mainly discusses the historic origin and era meaning of the research on symbolism drama.The Body part includes four chapters. ChapterⅠ, starting from elucidating the nature of Ibsen's symbolic drama, outlines the rationale and basic characteristics of the early creation of symbolism drama; ChapterⅡ, starting from Maeterlinck, who occupied a key position in the history of western symbolism drama, discusses the new features of the maturation period of symbolism drama creation and explores the artistic delight brought by "Interpretation of the complexity and ambiguity of symbolic body". ChapterⅢredefines and recognize the great playwright O'Neill's writing style from symbolism and discovers the enlightenment from the flowing deformation of symbolism drama art by means of the influence relationship between him and the predecessors' creation. Chapter IV excavates its new features and functions due to the human social change on the basis of summarizing essential characteristics of symbolism drama.The Conclusion part sums up the "life trajectory" of symbolism drama arts on the basis of pointing out the great significance of symbolism drama itself and its research for modern life experience and artistic creation.Symbolism drama is not exclusive art of an age, a country or a writer. It is an eternal artistic template which enrichs the literary forms and propositions, nourishes the human spirit and can not be ignored.
